Urban Rocks Gym

Staff

At Urban Rocks we have a dedicated staff ready to give you the local beta or a tour of the gym. Below is a quick and quirky introduction to our main staff members:

Christopher Gibson

Christopher is co-owner of Urban Rocks and the head route setter. Born and raised in Chattanooga he began climbing in the area with a local guide in the mid 80's. Before moving to Boston in 2001 to become a furniture maker, Chris traveled extensively in Europe and the United States climbing everything from Big Walls in Yosemite to the beautiful limestone cliffs in France.  Since opening the gym, Chris has had two joint surgeries, a laceration to the arm, and three different hair styles-coincidence, we think not. Now an accomplished climber of 22+ years he spends his time trying to balance a hectic work schedule and his love for the outdoors.  One word to the wise, Chris's ipod is known to scare small children and even some of the employees at times.

Rebecca Robran

Rebecca is the co-owner of Urban Rocks gym and comes from southern Wisconsin. There she grew up on a vegetable farm and mastered the folk art of vegetable sculpting. She decided to utilize this creativitiy and moved to Boston straight out of High School to attend a furniture making school, far, far away from the farm. Before opening the gym, Becky traveled across the U.S. in a very small truck and managed to get a fair amount of bouldering in, fended off axe-murderers and threw up several times from Las Vegas roller coasters. She hopes to continue her travels in the future.

Jonathan Berry

Jonathan is Urban Rocks general manager and the one employee who strives to keep things semi- professional at Urban Rocks.  Jonathan will admit to his sticky note obsessive-compulsiveness but it gets him and everyone moving faster, harder, better, stronger. You can often find him diligently working at the front desk or dominating on the foosball table with his mysterious spin moves. Jonathan started climbing in Nashville as a boy scout and moved to Chattanooga to attend UTC. He has since graduated with a major in Marketing and Entrepreneurship.

Chaz Warren

Chaz is responsible for the other half of the routes put up in Urban Rocks and does a great job keeping things fresh and diverse with his wide collection of flat-brimmed hats. He is also out on the boulder several nights a week, if not outside climbing, ready to share beta or work a problem. Chaz is from Nashville and moved to Chattanooga to attend UTC. He has since graduated with a Major in Business Management. Chaz has become an avid gardener since then and is known for his obscene amount of zucchini he is able to grow.  If you want a a break from climbing, hit Chaz up for the best mountain biking or skate spots in town.

Kelly Fuller

Kelly is from Knoxville where she learned how to climb.  Hablas espanol? Because Kelly sure does from her time in Peru (well, probas).  Kelly is in Nursing School at UTC and is perfectly comfortable discussing any bodily functions or fluids, which comes in handy with all the birthday parties she works here.  Before going to Nursing School, Kelly wanted to be an astronaut and actually the first person on Mars but her dreams were shattered due to her vision weakness.  Word to the wise, watch out for Kelly when she is gunning for the anchors when she's lead climbing because she might take your head off!

Chandler Wells

Chandler is our youngster at Urban Rocks but acts more mature than the rest of us most of the time.  If not working or schooling, Chandler is climbing and out-sending almost every "man" out there. Chandler is a Chattanooga local and plans on attending UTC once she graduates high school.  She once was the proud owner of a hedgehog named Prickles.  One word to the wise, never say mayonaise to Chandler - it grosses her out!
