Urban Rocks Youth Program

 

Urban Rocks is committed to providing a safe and fun atmosphere for all ages. The aim of our youth program is to help our participants develop a sense of focus and responsibility while socializing with thier peers. This is done through a combination of focused coaching and having the participants work together as a team while climbing.  We offer 1 month long sessions throughout the year and encourage participants to view the youth program as an ongoing activity as our coaches build a strong foundation of climbing technique and fundamental climbing knowledge that continues to grow with each monthly session. Our youth program is designed not as a competitive program but as a means for your child to develop long term both socially, mentally and physically.

About the Youth Program:

The program has 3 tiers of development . All participants start out in our Climbing Club while they learn the basics of climbing and gym etiquette. Normally after 2 -3 months at the Club level they may be promoted up to the Youth Team if they wish, which is more focused on safely developing strength and advanced climbing techniques. Depending on their focus and commitment to the Program they may further advance to the Urban Rocks Team. The goal of the Club, the  Youth Team and the Urban Rocks Team is to build a sense of trust, committment and community between the participants.

Participants also receive membership privileges during the duration of the program. Parents wishing to buy a membership during the same time will receive 15% off our monthly membership price.

Youth Club

  • Ages: 7 and up
  • Meets every Wednesday
  • Time: 4:00 - 5:30

The Climbing Club is our introduction the Urban Rocks Youth Program. In the club they are introduced to the gym and to the other participants. Some of the fundamentals covered are:

• Basic Climbing Terminology
• How to belay a climber
  • Gym Etiquette
  •  The Importance of Foot Placement
  •  How to tie their climbing knots
  • How to boulder safely


Price: $90 - includes gym membership for the month

(10% off for siblings)

A new session begins the first Wednesday of each month.

 Youth Team

Requirements: At least 2 months in our youth club. Must display a sense of focus and responsibility in the gym.

  • Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays

  • Time: 4:00 - 5:30

The instruction at this stage focuses on safely developing strength, flexibility, and fitness. Some of the skills learned will be:

Hand and Foot Positions

• Lead Climbing

• Learning to be a team leader

• Body Positions

• Reading a Route

  • Basic Training and Cooling Down
