We've made it through our first year here and wanted to share with everyone what a blast it's been! Everyone at Urban Rocks has had a great time meeting so many diverse people from the climbing community. We've taken a look back at what we've been able to accomplish this year and thought we'd share a few fun statistics that we've compiled:
- Since opening in January Urban Rocks has hosted 6 competitions, including our 1st ABS local comp. Through those competitions we have given away everything from flip flops, back packs, beanies to at least 30 pairs of climbing shoes through generous sponsorship by Sportiva, Evolv, Five Ten and Rock/Creek. We've also given away several ropes, tons of chalk bags, t-shirts and day passes.
- Our setters have managed to keep up a frantic setting pace throughout the entire year adding new boulder problems and routes weekly. They have set an outstanding 1,500 boulder problems and over 900 routes over the course of the year which comes to roughly 35,000 holds that have been changed! We've also been able to add a 1,000 new holds to our inventory helping keep things fresh.
- We've also been fortunate enough to work with the S.C.C. to raise funds for both Steele, AL and Yellow Bluff, AL. We were able to donate over $2,000 between the two causes. A big thanks to everyone who showed up to support those fundraisers and the S.E.C.
- The year ended with the gym hosting the launch and after party for the Chattanooga leg of the Triple Crown. This is a great event hosted annually to help secure and maintain local access to climbing areas that would normally be closed to climbers. This was a huge event for us with hundreds of climbers packing out the gym.
