Urban Rocks Gym hosts an Intro to Climbing Clinic at Outdoor Chattanooga in Coolidge Park this Winter FREE to the public. The clinic’s purpose is to teach Chattanoogan's how to get started in the sport of rock climbing and inform them of the climbing areas in and around Chattanooga.
In an effort to educate Chattanooga area families of the abundant climbing spots in the region and teach families how to enter the “extreme” world of rock climbing, Urban Rocks has agreed to offer beginner climbing clinics to get individuals and families started in a new and exciting sport. Urban Rocks and Outdoor Chattanooga created these clinics to generate interest in the sport of rock climbing, equip interested parties with the knowledge of how to ease into the sport and teach them how to do so safely.
The first clinic will run from 6 pm – 7:30 pm on Thursday, March 8th. Topics covered during the clinic include: What is rock climbing, what equipment is needed, misconceptions of the sport, safety precautions, why it is a family sport, indoor climbing vs. outdoor climbing, types and styles of climbing, local area crags and how to get started rock climbing. The climbing presentation will be followed by a bouldering demonstration on Outdoor Chattanooga’s in-house bouldering wall.
“I believe the general public views rock climbing as only an extreme sport in which accident and injury are all too likely to occur,” explains Jonathan Berry, Urban Rocks General Manager. He continues, “While accidents can happen, not unlike any other sport, if you possess the right knowledge and are equipped with the proper gear a climber can go years without injury.”
Anyone interested in attending the climbing clinic should simply stop by Outdoor Chattanooga on Thursday, March 8th at 6:00 pm to attend the presentation. The Outdoor Chattanooga Center is located in Coolidge Park at 200 River Street, Chattanooga, TN.
