At Urban Rocks, we are equipped to provide your Scout with the knowledge and experience necessary to complete the BSA Climbing Merit Badge. We understand that student schedules can be very hectic - so we revised our Merit Badge Program to provide scouts and parents with a few options to complete the Merit Badge!
COURSE OPTIONS:
Option 1: Merit Badge Membership Program
Price: $100/Scout
The four instructional sessions will cover the necessary merit badge requirements and will be scheduled once a week over the course of a month. With three Eagle Scouts (and three BSA Approved Merit Badge Counselors) on staff, we have the flexibility to work with your schedule. Urban Rocks will work with your Scout group to find a day and time that works with your schedule for the weekly sessions. During the course of the month, Scouts will also have the opportunity to come into the gym as much as they like and hone their skills with their Urban Rocks membership. Scouts will also receive free rental gear, URG Belay Certification (if 14 years or older), and a FREE Climbing Movement Clinic during the month of their membership.
Option 2: Merit Badge Day Certification
Pricing:
- $75 for Individuals, OR
- $200 for the 1st 4 scout
- $40 per additional scout (up to 10 scouts)
- $35 per additional scout (for 11 or more scouts)
This option is for Scouts who want to knock out the Climbing Merit Badge in a couple of sessions. This course splits up all of the requirements over the course of two sessions. All necessary climbing gear is provided.
Option 3: Merit Badge A La Carte Certification
Price: $30/hour + day pass and climbing gear fee.
If your scout has most of the merit badge requirements already checked off, but needs one or two additional tasks covered (like the climbing, belaying or rappelling portions of the course), Urban Rocks can help him with the rest! For individual merit badge requirements, we recommend scheduling a 1 to 2 hour session depending on the particular requirement(s).
Option 4: Merit Badge Lock-In
Pricing:
- Facility Rental Rate from 10pm - 7am: $360 plus
- Scout Rate: $25 per person (for groups of 10 or less)
- Scout Rate: $20 per person (for groups of 11 or more)
The Merit Badge Lock-In is FUN and EXCITING way to earn the Climbing Merit Badge. Throughout the night, scouts will work their way through all of the merit badge requirements switching off between the hands on/technical requirements and the lecture-based requirements. $500 minimum charge required for a lock in.

In order to use our time as wisely as possible, we ask Scouts to come to the merit badge training session having already read the merit badge book in full, completed requirements 1 and 2 and having practiced tying the climbing knots.
