Urban Rocks, La Sportiva and Rock/Creek Team Up for a Night of FREE Cosmic Climbing Benefitting The Trust for Public Land

On Friday, October 7^th, Urban Rocks is happy to announce that we will be hosting our 2^nd annual BouldeRave.  From 5pm – 10pm, participants will be able to climb in a cosmic atmosphere (neon lights, neon climbing holds and bumping music).  In addition to the climbing, the event will feature a climbing gear demo (with 20+ vendors), raffle prizes (benefitting The Trust for Public Land), an exciting speed climbing competition, pre-registration for the Triple Crown Bouldering Series, various climbing games and an after-party fueled by Nashville DJ - This is ART.

Check out the following event activities for climbers and non-climbers alike:

- COSMIC CLIMBING: From 5 – 9pm participants may climb on our 14’ boulder or climb up our 35’ sport climbing walls with the help of our volunteer belayers.  Climbers must be 7 years of age or older.  No topping out will be allowed on the boulder.  Volunteer belayers will provide harnesses and headlamps for big wall climbing. 

- INUDTRY GEAR DEMO: From 5 – 9pm participants can check out 20 + gear vendors outside the climbing gym.  Title Sponsor, La Sportiva, will have a full demo fleet of shoes allowing participants to try on and climb in some of the newest climbing shoes on the market.  Other shoe companies, Evolv, Five Ten and Salewa will also have their demo fleets and will be showing off their newest products.  Since the Stone Fort leg of The Triple Crown Bouldering Series takes place the following day, event goers can expect to see most all of the vendors who will be present at Stone Fort.  

- RAFFLE PRIZES: With the help from local sponsors and climbing gear manufacturers, we will be raffling off prizes throughout the night!  We will be selling raffle tickets for $1 a pop and 100% of proceeds will benefit The Trust for Public Land.  Since we are in the month of October (and because everyone likes to dress up...) we will give a FREE raffle ticket to anyone who comes to the event in costume!  Be ready to buy some raffle tickets because we will be raffling off two pair of La Sportiva climbing shoes – and even if you don’t win you are supporting a wonderful cause.

- SPORTIVA CHALLENGE: From 5 – 9pm climbers will have the opportunity to attempt the SportivaChallenge - a beginner-friendly climbing game sponsored by La Sportiva.  Participants will have a chance to race each other up the big wall on our auto belays.  Volunteers will be there to orient participants to the auto belays and assist them in harnessing up.   All racers will have the option to sign up to be placed into a special raffle drawing to win a pair of La Sportiva climbing shoes!  From 5 – 6:30 pm we will have a photographer snapping shots of climbers after their race that will get posted on Facebook to rub in the losers face. Raffle winners will be announced after the Speedster Sprint.

- SPEEDSTER SPRINT: Get ready to see some whippers! From 7 – 9pm, all focus will be drawn towards the lead wall for our more advanced speed climbing competition geared towards seasoned climbers. Competitors will race each other on two separate routes on our lead wall cruising to tunes by This Is ART. Competitors will be on top rope up to the last bolt and must dyno for the last hold to determine the winner.  We will only have about 30 spots for this competition so sign up as soon as you get here!  We will not pre-register for this event so it is first come, first serve on the day of the event. The two lowest combined times will go home with a pair of La Sportiva climbing shoes! 

- THE AFTER PARTY: From 9:30pm - midnight, after the two speed events, raffle prizes will be given out.  Once the winners of the Sportiva Challenge and Speedster Sprint are announced, we will kick off the after party by tapping the keg (for participants ages 21 and up) and crankin’ the tunes provided by electronic DJ -THIS is Art.  To keep this party safe and injury free, once the keg has been tapped, there will be NO CLIMBING ALLOWED in the gym at all.  But don’t fret, we will have a corn hole and foosball going on outside and the Crash Pad Stacking Contest inside! 

- THE CRASH PAD-PAD STACKING - We will also be commencing our pad-stacking contest during the after party sponsored by local hostel- The Crash Pad.  (Check them out if you need a place to stay!) You know the famous, not so dangerous, balance game. Participants will each take a turn stacking AND standing on top of as many crash pads as they can manage.   This will go on for the remainder of the event – until we have concluded two winners who will be going home with a special prize from our friends at The Crash Pad. 

- THIS IS ART -  featuring the live musical performance of Art Webb, a skilled bassist and multi-genre electronic producer hailing from Nashville, TN. ART unleashes raw musical creativity in the form of improvised deep sub-bass lines, broken break-beats, and epic synth melodies over an array of self recorded samples and stereophonic soundscapes. The result is a distinctively rich sound, complete with melodic tones and organic structures while paying direct homage to the true underground forms of BASS music.  Art will be ripping the beats from 7 – 9pm during the Speedster Sprint and from 10 pm – midnight during the Crash Pad – Pad Stacking contest and the After Party!

We hope you and many others are able to make it out for the event!  If you are in town competing in the Stone Fort competition on Saturday, we definitely expect to see you there!  Free gear, prizes and shoes are cool, but this is about way more. We are adding more lights than we had last year, having an awesome DJ, expecting more people, and having some crazy games.   Feel free to call us at the gym if you have any additional questions regarding the event.
