Stopping in for the Day:
Roped Climbing Options (Best option for those 12 & under):
Bring your child in for our auto-belays*:
Auto-Belays are the most economical option for the roped climbing. For our $14 Junior Package your child will be able to climb on our two auto-belays. These are mechanical devices that manage the ropes as your child ascends up the wall. There are several climbing routes on each auto-belay so there is a variety of paths and options as they climb. With our Junior Package your child would also be able to try our bouldering (non-roped climbing). Check out our Weekly Specials for discounted times to come in and climb!
* Children MUST be 5 years old and a minimum of 35 pounds to use the auto-belays. They also must be directly supervised by an adult for each climb. A safety orientation is provided for all first time users.
Learn to belay for your child:
Belaying is the act of managing the ropes as a climber ascends, keeping them secure and safe. Taking a class to learn this process is a great option if your child enjoys climbing and wants to explore more of the roped climbing areas in the gym. Learning to belay is also a good option if you think you will be coming more than once and/or would like to spend quality time with your kids. The first time in we have a Kid's Intro Pack for $25. This includes climbing pass, rental gear and a belay class for the adult in charge. Any additional kids are $14. The belay class takes 30 minutes (kids will be involved) and is offered during our regular hours until 8PM on weekdays and 6PM on weekends. NO reservations required. For more information on what belaying entails please visit our Belay Class page.Let an Urban Rocks staff member belay your child:
Having an Urban Rocks staff member belay your child is an excellent introduction to climbing. They will coach your child through the different climbs while giving attention to each child's different ability and comfort levels. The cost for a staff belay is $20 for an half hour or $30 for an hour. Regular Climbing Pass & Rental Gear prices still apply. Staff Belays are subject to staff availability. It is recommended that you call to reserve a time for staff member to assist your child. Staff members are generally available from 4p.m. - 6p.m. on weekdays and from noon -4p.m. on weekends but staff belays MUST be reserved ahead of time to guarantee availability.Bouldering Options:
Bouldering is free climbing without a rope for protection. Our bouldering area is 15' high with big gymnastic mats to break your fall. This is a bit more of an advanced type of climbing and we therefore recommend that your children are 12 or older to try it. It is open to all ages though and if this is the activity that you choose here are a few things to know:- All children under 12 must be actively spotted by an adult for each climb.
- Children must be supervised by an adult at all times while in the bouldering area
- Adults supervising their children are responsible for the protective pad placement
- Adults in the facility for the first time must go through a bouldering safety orientation before their children can climb
