- What is belaying?
- Belaying is the process of securing and safeguarding a climber by using a rope to hold the climber’s weight if he falls. The ascending climber and the belayer, or the person holding the rope through a belay device, are a team that is linked together by the rope. Belaying is an important part of the climbing chain of safety and one of the most important skills that any novice climber must master to become a safe climber.
- I want to bring my children in. How much will it cost?
- If your children are under 12 they must use the roped section of our gym (no bouldering). This means someone has to secure the ropes for them. A parent learning to do so is the most economical option but staff can also be hired. It is $14 per child plus $15 for the parent to learn how to manage the ropes. Check out our Kids page for more options.
- What is bouldering?
- Bouldering is climbing on shorter walls, usually 10 - 15ft tall and no ropes are needed. If you fall there are large gymnastic pads to fall on. This type of climbing tends to be a bit more difficult than the roped climbing and is it is recommended that climbers are 12 or older. Children under 12 are allowed to climb on the boulder but must be supervised by an adult at all times and are not allowed to top out on the boulder.
